Description

B.L.D.G. (Barrio Logan Design Guild) is bound by shipyards, train tracks, and freeways. Following the gentrification of San Diego’s East Village art district, our intention was to create a core for art & architecture. The building’s exterior draws from the rich cultural iconography, color, and texture from it’s immediate context, while the interior attempts to connect the art of design to the art of making by utilizing custom designed architectural detailing hand-crafted in the fabrication shop housed within the building. Ultimately, we decided to add a gourmet restaurant, The Guild, to the program to draw people to the neighborhood and display our wares as designer / fabricators.
